Dakine Consulting, Inc. is the vision of Kipp M. Imel where a firm would provide an avenue that clients could consult and get objective and genuine advice about money from a tax professional's perspective. Kipp has been a tax pro his entire career starting as a college intern at a Chicagoland accounting firm in the late 1990's and being hired full time upon graduating double majored in Accounting and Business Administration in May 1999. He also holds minors in Finance, Computer Information Science, and Bible from Clearwater Christian College.
What's in the name? After traveling to Hawaii a few times in the mid-2000's, Kipp was inspired and absorbed with the spirit of Aloha and learned a native term: dakine. In short, "da kine" is Hawaiian Pidgin that translates loosely to "the kind" in English. It means anything and everything, can be used in a multitude of ways, and conveys quality and authenticity. Originally incorporated on July 11, 2006 in Illinois, it was some fifteen (15) year's and twenty-two (22) tax seasons later on January 5, 2022 that the company acquired it's first tax practice, B&H Tax Service located in Northeast San Antonio, Texas. One year to the day later on January 5, 2023, a second tax practice was acquired, Akamai Tax Service located in Windward Honolulu, specifically Waimanalo, Hawaii. Today, these locations represent thriving tax practices servicing clients tax needs and striving to attain exceptional status in this narrow domain.
